About MSR

MSR “was” a non-profit organization of men working… etc.; we continue to exist in spirit, as our former members continue to explore the implications of masculinity, violence, in their own lives, as well as the shifting – and ever-expanding – conversation about gender identity in the culture at large as younger generations continue to instigated change.

Some former members have continued the work by working with state, national, and local coalitions, SV&DV agencies, and educational institutions; some continue by posting content online.

If you are a man in the Madison community (or greater Dane Co. area), and want to engage in conversation about what we can do to address violence in our communities, feel free to reach out to Stephen at montyland@gmail.com.

Men Stopping Rape, Inc. is a non-profit organization of men working in the Madison community and greater Dane Co. to promote education for men about a topic that historically is viewed as a “women’s issue”: sexual assault.

The membership of MSR consists of men working and living in the community. We cover a wide range of ages, upbringings, orientations and experiences. We share a desire to live in a world free of violence against women and against men.

Men join MSR for a variety of reasons: many of us have known someone in our lives who has been assaulted; some of us have come to question our own behavior and the role violence has played in our “initiation” into modern masculine culture, and we desire to learn how to avoid perpetrating assault; all of us benefit from an atmosphere of support and understanding.
